The Temple Atlanta is the oldest Jewish congregation in Atlanta, and currently follows the Reform tradition. Established in 1860 as the “Hebrew Benevolent Congregation”, it served the needs of the local German-Jewish community. During the American Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, the temple was bombed by white supremacists for its support for racial equality.
