The city of Jasper, founded in 1818, is a regional center in Southwestern Indiana, noted for its German Catholic roots. Many of the residents trace their ancestry to a small town in Germany called Pfaffenweiler, which was chosen to be Jasper’s sister city. The city features many historic buildings, sites, and events affiliated with its German heritage. One such event is the Jasper Strassenfest, a celebration between Jasper and Pfaffenweiler held every August in the town.
