“Christian Heurich emigrated from Germany in 1866 after learning the brewing business as an apprentice. In 1872 he purchased a brewery on 20th Street NW between M and N Streets. He built these houses in 1885 probably for managers and foremen, or for unmarried workmen, a common practice among factory owners in the nineteenth century. They were demolished to make room for new developments.”
