Inscription on historical marker: “On May 5, 1885, the Richter brothers, Trustee and members of the German Turnverein purchased 40-acre Block “O” on which a 1.81-acre parcel was briefly designated as the Turnverein Cemetery—locally known as “Turner Hill.” On July 27, 1893 Zion Lutheran Evangelical Church acquired this parcel, and in 1894 constructed a pioneer church on this site. The building was removed in 1928, but the cemetery remained in use until 1982. Both the church in Gotha and the cemetery have been placed in the Foundation for the Historical Zion Lutheran Church of Gotha to preserve the sites in perpetuity.”
