Originally built in 1906 to house the Orthodox Adas Israel congregation, the building was left empty for several decades when Adas Israel moved to a space in Cleveland Park (where it remains today). In 2002, the building was bought back from a Christian congregation; renovations were completed in 2004, and Sixth & I reopened as a non-denominational temple.
