“The German Language Society (GLS) is a German-interest, non-profit organization based in Washington D.C. Its mission is to motivate members to gain an “understanding and knowledge of the German language”. GLS is open to “everyone regardless of race, color, creed, and country of origin”. Through past events, it is evident that GLS is dedicated to promoting the culture of Germany through the German language and the Washington D.C. based community. One unique characteristic of GLS is its focus on not only its mission statement, but also its Motto. The Motto: “Das Menschlichste, was wir haben, ist doch die Sprache, und wir haben sie, um zu sprechen.”
