“On November 2, 1856, fourteen pioneering Jewish men gathered at the home of Julius Glaser, a native of Würzburg, Germany, and founded a congregation with a clearly established constitution and set of by-laws in a community where only seven years earlier there were no Jewish settlers living.” (Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation website)
“The firm of Vonnegut & Bohn designed the Temple of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation which stood on the southeast corner of Delaware and 10th Streets. The cornerstone of this temple was placed on June 5, 1899 and it was dedicated on November 3, 1899. The congregation worshipped there until they moved to their new synagogue on North Meridian in 1958.” (Historic Indianapolis)
