The University of Maine German Club is a culture club incorporating all things German; From family backgrounds in Germany, desire to travel, speaking the language, it doesn’t matter, as long as you’re interested. As a blanket club, we represent all German speaking countries, including: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Belgium, and try to incorporate as much diversity from these nations as we possibly can. All are welcome to join the German Club, and if you have an idea or passion and want to create or participate in a German-related activity for the public, the German Club is your perfect medium, we’re always happy to show off German Culture!
The German Club was first founded in 1906 at the University of Maine, making it one of the oldest active student organizations on campus. After 110 years, and surviving two world wars with Germany, the club has always maintained a presence with a welcoming philosophy that all can be a part of the German Club, and we love to have events that anyone can pursue if they have a fun idea. Some recent events that we have done are a Vienna Waltz Ballroom Dance Class, Hosting German Lecturers for Seminars, Weihnachtsmarkt fundraiser for the UMaine Art Museum, Cafe Wien bake sail, German Movie Nights and handing out hot kinderpunsch on chilly days!
